Moving to retirement living can feel like a big step.
We’re here to help you feel confident when making your decision.

Many people see retirement living as a great
way to downsize and enjoy a lifestyle with less
stress and more fun.

Here’s a few reasons our residents love living with us.

The Lloyds find a community that cares

Alistair and Shirley first turned to VMCH to support their adopted daughter Alana, who has cerebral palsy and cortical vision impairment.

The Lloyds have now entered a new chaper of their lives, retirement. VMCH is again going on the journey with them after they moved to St Joseph’sMews.

“Moving into St Joseph’s Mews, we’re not buting bricks and mortar, we’re buying into a community with people that care about each other,” Alistair says.

“VMCH is a community and it really truly is like nothing else we’ve experience,” Shirley says.

VMCH Retirement Living aims to maximise people’s independence and social interaction by maintaing close links with the local parish, social groups and community organisations.

Enjoy the ‘lock up and leave’ lifestyle

Lyn and Bert love to travel and enjoy their independence. The couple can travel with peace of mind knowing that their home in Camberwell’s Athelstan Retirement Living is in good hands, with the help of their Manager, Colin.

“Being in a place like this we know we can just close the door and take off,” Lyn says.

They can travel carefree knowing that their three-bedroom apartment is secure and being looked after with the VMCH community.

Colin makes it his job to ensure their home is as they left it when they return. He keeps an eye on the property, organises for the plants to be watered and keeps Lyn and Bert informed if any maintenance issues arise.

“I really don’t need to worry at all because I know that if there’s anything that crops up, Colin will just send an email and we can tend to it as need be,” Lyn says.

Downsize and gain more independence

Downsizing is one of the top reasons that people give for moving into a retirement community, according to research.

Janet Mills lives in an apartment at VMCH St Joseph’s Mews, in Hawthorn, and says moving has given her more freedom – especially from housework and cores.

“It’s an easy way of living without too many worries,”s she said.

She says she loves the communal areas – like the library, lounges and cafe – that she gets to enjoy without the hassle of having to clean them.

“The housework hardley exists. You walk out of your apartment into the passage way and it’s lovely and clear.”
